String Day

This year’s String Day:

Saturday, November 22, 2008
School of Music & Dance
at San Jose State University

What is String Day?

String Day is a full day seminar for high school and university level chamber ensembles to receive chamber ensemble coaching from the Cypress String Quartet. Ensembles learn techniques and skills for improving ensemble rehearsal and performance, work on music of each group’s choice, meet new people, and learn about what San Jose State University has to offer.

Students register for this event as preformed chamber ensembles. In-depth coaching sessions led by each member of the Cypress String Quartet are provided, as well as the opportunity for each ensemble to perform for families and friends at the end of the day using their newly acquired techniques and skills in front of the audience. A tour of San Jose State University, lunch, and snacks are also included in the day.

The event is a great way for high school ensembles to gain experience playing together and performing while receiving high quality guidance in preparing for competitions and recitals—all the while having fun and meeting new friends!

If you are part of an ensemble or know on one who is interested in applying, please contact the Cypress Education Director, Kim Bigelow at kim@cypressquartet.com or 415-681-9045.

While there is a $25 dollar registration fee, the workshop itself is free.
