For Educators

“I spend my days training pre-professional artists to combine the highest level of musicianship with a commitment to humanity. I can say without hesitation that the
Cypress String Quartet epitomizes this goal.”
Dr. Aaron A. Flagg
Director, Education Outreach, Juilliard School

The Cypress String Quartet has created some of the most innovative and thoughtful music education programs in America, reaching over 100,000 students nationwide since their inception in 1996. Named an “Exemplary Arts Educator” by the California Arts Council, the Cypress has also been singled out by The Juilliard School and McGraw Hill Companies for their achievements in music education. The Quartet’s groundbreaking educational activities have impacted thousands of students in Bay Area schools as well as Native Americans in rural New Mexico, inner-city students in Philadelphia and Chicago, and autistic students in Los Angeles.

Currently the Quartet-in-Residence at San José State University, the Cypress has created innovative residencies with major colleges and universities across the nation, including MIT, the University of Maryland, the University of California at Davis, the Lied Centers of Kansas and Nebraska, and many more.

“Your residency was a milestone in the lives of my students and deeply meaningful to them…I have told many people about your concert too. It was all wonderful — an unforgettable experience.”
Dr. Peter Childs, MIT Professor of Music
